QJ is a Chinese puzzle brand. Cubers know it mainly for the classic QJ Pyraminx and Megaminx, unusual puzzles such as the Pyraminx Crystal and Mastermorphix, and its affordable timer.
QJ is a Chinese brand of twisty puzzles. Its name comes from the Chinese 奇积 (Qí Jī), which translates as "odd solution". The manufacturer's catalog covers most of the classic puzzles: 2x2, 3x3, 4x4 and 5x5 cubes, as well as Pyraminx, Megaminx, Skewb, Square-1 and Tetraminx. Among cubers, the brand is known mainly for its non-cube puzzles rather than for its 3x3 models.
The brand's best-known product is the QJ Pyraminx. It appeared around 2010 and for a long time was one of the most popular Pyraminx puzzles for speedcubing. It has a ball mechanism that reduces overturning, which means turning a layer further than you intended. The inner layers turn with a distinct click, and the tips turn smoothly. It was sold with regular stickers or with tiled stickers, which give better finger grip but peel off more easily.
The QJ Megaminx was also well regarded in the community. In older forum roundups, it was often recommended to beginners in this event as a cheaper alternative to more expensive models.
Today, new flagship speed cubes are released mainly by other brands, and the QJ range doesn't include features such as magnets or tension adjustment found in newer designs. That makes QJ puzzles interesting mainly for two groups. The first is collectors and fans of unusual shapes (Pyraminx Crystal, Mastermorphix, Octahedron). The second is people who want to try a new event without spending much, for example Pyraminx or Megaminx. If you plan regular timed practice, you'll usually switch quickly to a newer magnetic model. For getting started and casual solving, QJ still does the job.
