List of products by manufacturer The Valk

The Valk is a series of speed cubes made by QiYi in collaboration with Mats Valk, a former 3x3 world record holder. The range includes magnetic 2x2, 3x3, 4x4 and 5x5 cubes, including the flagship Valk 3 Elite M.

The Valk brand was created through a collaboration between Dutch speedcuber Mats Valk and the Chinese manufacturer QiYi (MoFangGe). QiYi produces the cubes to Mats's specifications. Before a model went into mass production, Mats had to personally approve its mechanism and how the cube performs. The first model was the Valk 3, a 3x3 cube released in 2016. The series later grew to include cubes from 2x2 to 5x5, including several further versions of the 3x3.

Mats Valk and the record on the Valk 3

Mats Valk broke the 3x3 world record (single) twice. In 2013 he set a time of 5.55 s, and in November 2016, at the Jawa Timur Open in Indonesia, he solved it in 4.74 s. He set this second record on a Valk 3. In 2011–2012 he also held world records in 4x4, and in the cubing community he is known as the creator of the VLS (Valk Last Slot) method. So the brand is named after a competitor who tested these cubes at competitions himself.

The Valk cubes available in our shop

  • The Valk 3 Elite M – the flagship 3x3 cube of the series, released in December 2019. It measures 55.5 mm and has factory-installed magnets and interchangeable springs. It comes with magnetic center caps and extra springs. Users describe it as light and fast, with a smooth feel and consistent magnets.

  • The Valk 2 Magnetic and The Valk 2 Light Magnetic – two versions of the 2x2 cube that differ in magnet strength. The Light version has weaker magnets and turns more freely. The standard version holds the layers more firmly.

  • The Valk 4x4x4 Standard Magnetic and Strong Magnetic – a 60 mm 4x4 cube, smaller than most 4x4 cubes (usually around 62 mm). It's easier to hold if you have smaller hands. The Standard version has weaker magnets and a lighter feel. The Strong version has stronger magnets, so the layers "snap" into place more clearly, giving you more stability. Choosing between them is mainly a matter of preference.

  • The Valk 5x5x5 Magnetic – a 62 mm magnetic 5x5 cube. Reviews praise it for its stability and good corner cutting.

Who are The Valk cubes for?

These are speed cubes for anyone who wants a proven magnetic cube without complex tension adjustment. They will suit casual cubers and speedcubers who prefer a familiar, predictable feel over the latest novelties. They also make a good first cube for a child. The letter M or the word Magnetic means the cube has magnets, which help align the layers in the right position and reduce lockups. This makes solving easier for beginners.
