Cube Bags and Cases for Puzzle Cubes

A cube carried loose in a backpack or pocket quickly picks up dust and small scratches. On stickerless models and cubes with a UV coating, these marks are easy to spot. A cube bag protects your puzzle on the way to practice or a competition, and in a drawer while it waits for your next session. Which cube bag should you choose?

Three things matter most: the size of the puzzle, how the bag closes, and whether the bag only needs to keep dust off or should also cushion the cube a little.

• GAN Cube bag and Cube bag with the SK logo: lightweight everyday bags, the first with the GAN logo, the second with the Strefa Kostek logo. They take up little space and protect your cube from dust and scratches. According to customer reviews, the GAN bag fits a 3x3 or a 2x2 cube.
• Cube bag 2x2-5x5: a bag for cubes from 2x2 to 5x5. Handy if you have several NxN sizes and want matching bags for all of them.
• YJ Plush Bag: a bag made of plush material, with a zipper and a strap for attaching it. The thick material cushions the cube in your bag better than thin fabric, and the zipper won't open by itself in your backpack.
• X-Man Tornado V3 Cube Case: a case by X-Man Design from the Tornado V3 series. A good option if you solve on the Tornado V3 and want a case from the same line.
• QiYi Clock Pouch: a round zippered case shaped to fit the Clock. The Clock has exposed dials and pins, so a regular cube bag isn't a good fit for it.

What can you expect from a cube bag?

A fabric bag protects against dust, dirt and scratches. However, it won't replace a hard box if the cube is dropped or gets crushed in a packed bag. For carrying one cube every day, a simple bag is enough. A speedcuber taking several puzzles to a competition can keep each one in a separate bag. That way the cubes don't knock against each other, and it's easier to find the right one before a round. For kids' cubes, convenience matters most: a zippered bag or one with a strap is less likely to get lost and won't come undone in a backpack.
