A Chinese cube maker founded in 2004, known for the GuHong and ZhanChi models, which dominated the 3x3 category for years – world records were set on the ZhanChi. Today DaYan makes, among others, the GuHong Pro and TengYun series, popular megaminxes, as well as Pyraminx, Skewb and FTO in magnetic and Maglev versions.
DaYan has been around since 2004 and is one of the Chinese brands that modern speedcubing started with. The cubes are designed by Daqing Bao, and the brand name (大雁) means "wild goose" in Chinese. In our shop you will find DaYan cubes in many categories: 2x2, 3x3, 4x4, 5x5, Megaminx, Pyraminx, Skewb and FTO, plus the brand's own lube.
The GuHong, released in 2010, was the first cube with reverse corner cutting, which means it kept turning even when the layers were misaligned in the opposite direction. Its successor, the ZhanChi, was the main cube of many top competitors for several years. Feliks Zemdegs set a 5.66 s world record on it in 2011, and Mats Valk set a 5.55 s record in 2013. For a long time, DaYan dominated the classic 3x3 category. Later, the brand disappeared from the 3x3 market for a few years and returned in 2019 with the GuHong V3 M and TengYun M.
The GuHong and ZhanChi names will mean the most to people who know the history of speedcubing. However, DaYan's current range suits a much wider audience. The magnetic GuHong Pro M works well as a first proper 3x3 cube or as a gift for a child. The Maglev versions and the TengYun V2, with their extensive adjustment options, are a better fit for speedcubers who like to set up a cube to their own taste. DaYan megaminxes, FTO, Pyraminx and Skewb are models for people training WCA events other than 3x3.
