DaYan GuHong Pro+ Maglev 55mm

DaYan GuHong Pro+ MagLev 55mm 3x3

This is the new version of the GuHong Pro M, and DaYan has added two things its predecessor was missing: numerical tension and compression adjustment, and adjustable corner-core magnets. The DaYan GuHong Pro+ MagLev 55mm is a 55 mm magnetic 3x3 cube. Instead of springs, it uses a MagLev system, and the whole cube contains 94 magnets. We offer it in the stickerless bright colour scheme.

How it turns

The feel is typical DaYan: soft and slightly "papery". The MagLev version turns lightly and quickly. Some users even find it too fast at first. If that happens, try a stronger corner-core magnet setting, higher tension or a thicker lube. Reviewers praise the corner cutting, and lockups mainly happen when your turning is imprecise. The cube comes heavily lubed from the factory. Straight out of the box it can feel a bit sandy, but it speeds up noticeably after a few solves. The center caps stay on more securely than on the GuHong Pro M, where some users had them fall off.

Adjustment and magnets

• MagLev. The springs have been replaced with repelling magnets. There is less friction, and turning is lighter than in the spring version.
• Adjustable corner-core magnets. The corners are attracted to the core, which helps align the layers. You can change the strength of this attraction to shift the cube's character towards speed or control.
• Numerical dual adjustment. Tension and compression are set with the same part, and the positions are marked with numbers. The numbers are quite small, so you need to look closely.

MagLev or Magnetic?

The GuHong Pro+ is also available in a Magnetic version. It has 64 magnets and classic springs. The MagLev has 94 magnets, is faster and turns more lightly, and you can't hear any spring noise. If you prefer a calmer, more controllable cube, you may feel more at home with the spring version. The model comes in three sizes: 54, 55 and 56 mm. 55 mm sits in the middle of this range, and most cubers consider it a versatile size.

Who is it for?

For speedcubers who like fast cubes and want plenty of adjustment options. It is also a good choice if you've moved on from your first cube and are looking for something more serious to practise with. With such a fast MagLev, though, a beginner may need a moment to get used to it. Fans of the "DaYan feel" will find the familiar soft character here, with more settings than on the Pro M.
