DaYan GuHong Pro+ Magnetic 55mm

DaYan GuHong Pro+ Magnetic 55mm is the newer version of the GuHong Pro M. It keeps the same layer feel but adds a few features its predecessor was missing: adjustable core magnets, numbered dual adjustment and center caps that stay in place better. This 3x3 cube is the Magnetic version, which means it uses classic springs, not MagLev. It measures 55 mm and comes in stickerless bright.

How it turns

Users describe the feel as typical of DaYan: soft, slightly "papery" and smooth. The cube is fast and has good corner cutting. The magnets in the pieces give a clear click after every move. Many reviews say the Pro+ feels almost the same in the hand as the GuHong Pro M, but it is built more carefully and offers more adjustment options. Out of the box the cube can be heavily lubed, so during the first solves it may turn a bit differently than after it has been broken in.

Adjustment

• Adjustable core magnets. The magnets between the corners and the core help the layers settle into place. You can change their strength, so it's easy to set the cube up for more control or more speed.
• Numbered dual adjustment. A single part lets you set both tension and compression. The levels are numbered, so it's easy to return to your favorite setup. However, the numbers are small and not always easy to see.
• 64 magnets in the whole cube, including the core magnets.

Magnetic or MagLev?

The GuHong Pro+ is also available in a MagLev version. There, the springs are replaced with repelling magnets, bringing the total to 94 magnets. MagLev turns faster and lighter, and you can't hear any springs. The spring-based Magnetic version is more classic and usually feels a bit calmer. Both variants have the same core magnet adjustment and similar layer feel.

Who is it for?

For anyone who wants a cube with serious adjustment options but doesn't need a top-of-the-line flagship. The cube works well for timed solving and as a first "real" speedcube. For beginners, a big advantage is being able to change the settings as their turning style develops. The 55 mm size sits between the popular 56 mm and 54 mm. It will be appreciated by people with smaller hands and those who find a standard 3x3 a little too big.
