DaYan GuHong Pro+ Magnetic 54mm

GuHong is one of DaYan's longest-running series, and the Pro+ is the successor to the GuHong Pro M. The DaYan GuHong Pro+ Magnetic 54mm is a magnetic 3x3 cube in a smaller 54 mm size, in the version with classic springs (no MagLev). Compared with its predecessor, it gets adjustable core magnet strength plus numbered tension and compression adjustment. Until recently, settings like these were mostly found on noticeably more expensive flagships.

How it turns

The feel is typical DaYan: soft, slightly "papery" and smooth. The cube is fast. Some users even find it too fast right out of the box, because it comes with quite a lot of factory lube. If it feels too loose for you at first, try a tighter setting, stronger core magnets or a thicker lube. Corner cutting and reverse corner cutting are generous, and lockups mostly happen with imprecise turning.

The standard size for 3x3 cubes is 55-56 mm, so 54 mm is on the smaller side. It fits smaller hands better, and many cubers choose it for One-Handed (OH). If you prefer a standard size, the same model is also available in 55 and 56 mm versions.

Magnets and adjustment

• 64 magnets in the pieces and between the corners and the core.
• Corner-core magnets with 5 strength levels. They help the cube settle layers on its own and keep it stable during fast turning. A weaker setting shifts the cube towards speed, a stronger one towards control.
• Numbered dual adjustment: 6 tension levels and 8 compression levels. The settings are marked, so it's easy to set all faces the same way.
• Micro-injection core with magnets.

Magnetic or MagLev?

The GuHong Pro+ comes in two versions. The Magnetic version described here uses springs and has 64 magnets. In the MagLev version, the springs are replaced with repelling magnets (94 in total), which makes turning lighter and faster, while the cube is slightly heavier. The spring version makes sense if you don't need MagLev or don't particularly like how it feels.

Who is it for?

It's a good choice if you want your first proper speedcube with full adjustment without reaching for the most expensive flagships. It also suits speedcubers looking for a smaller 3x3 cube for OH or as a main. The settings let you tune it both for light, fast turning and for a calmer, more controlled style. Beginners will benefit from a tighter setting and stronger magnets, as the cube can be very fast in its factory configuration.
