Speedstacking (sport stacking) is a sport in which you stack specially designed cups into patterns defined by the rules as fast as possible, then take them back down. Competitions feature three sequences: 3-3-3 with 9 cups, 3-6-3 with 12 cups, and the Cycle, which combines several stacks into a single run. Here you'll find speedstacking cups, timers, mats and accessories for practice and for storing your equipment.
The basis is a set of 12 Speed Stacks cups, because that's how many all three sequences require. Cups from this brand are the only ones approved for WSSA (World Sport Stacking Association) competitions, so you practice on the same equipment used at tournaments. The Pro Series 2 has a centerless design. According to the manufacturer, it reduces air resistance during fast stacking, so this version is mainly for those who are chasing their best times. Printed cups work exactly like the standard ones; they only differ in looks. A single cup comes in handy as a replacement for a damaged one in your set.
The other sizes are meant more for fun and practice. Shorties are lower than standard cups, but you can still grip them with your whole hand. They're quicker to stack, and children with smaller hands find them easier to hold. Mini cups and Jumbo cups are recreational versions, not competition equipment. For storage, the Cup Keeper is useful, as it helps your cups keep their round shape.
The Speed Stacks G5 Timer measures time to 0.001 s. You start and stop it with your hands placed on sensitive touch pads. The timer has a data port for connecting an external display, which requires a jack cable. Pro Gen 5 sets come in two variants: timer with bag, or timer with mat and bag. The G5 Timer has a two-pad and a four-pad mode. It is recognized by both the WSSA and the WCA, but at cubing competitions it may only be used in two-pad mode.
The same equipment works great for speedcubing, which is why some mats feature cube-themed designs. Gen4 and Gen5 mats come in several designs, including Speedcubing, Speedstacking, Black Flame and Skyline. A mat gives you an even, non-slip surface and protects your cups and cubes. If you mainly want to time your cube solves and don't need Speed Stacks equipment, the MoYu Timer is all you need.
