Speed Stacks Gen5 Mat - Black Flame

Speed Stacks Gen5 Mat - Black Flame

The Speed Stacks Gen5 Black Flame Mat is an original SpeedStacks mat for the fifth-generation (G5) timer, featuring a black flame design. Black Flame is part of the premium Gen5 mat line. The shape and function are the same as the standard G5 mat; only the graphics are different. The package contains the mat only, the timer is sold separately.

Fits the G5 timer only

The mat has a new shape, different from previous versions, and a new timer mounting system. The G5 timer clips into the mat and locks in place, so it's harder to knock off when you slap it hard with your hands. Older mats had holes in this spot that tore over time. Gen5 solves this problem. However, the mounting is designed exclusively for the G5. A Gen4 timer or any older generation cannot be mounted in it. If you have an older StackMat timer, this mat will not fit it.

For cubing and sport stacking

The Speed Stacks G5 timer has been allowed at WCA competitions since 2022. This means a G5 set with a mat lets you train at home on the same equipment used at competitions. The mat is also approved by the WSSA, the World Sport Stacking Association, so it's also suitable for training with Speed Stacks cups.

In practice, the mat protects your table, muffles the sound of putting the cube down and gives you a fixed spot for inspection and starting. It's lightweight, and for transport you simply roll it up.

Who is it for?

The mat is useful if you already have a G5 timer and want to replace a worn-out mat or get a second one, e.g. in a different design. It also works well if you're building your set step by step: first the timer, then the mat. For a first purchase, a ready-made set with a timer and mat is usually better value.
