The Speed Stacks Gen5 Mat is a version of the mat designed for speedcubing. Speed Stacks has worked with the cubing community for years, and its timers are well known from competitions. The main difference from the classic sport stacking mat is the size. This mat measures approx. 45 x 29 cm, so it is noticeably shorter and fits on a regular desk or a small table. A full-size stacking mat is almost 80 cm long, which is simply too long if you only solve cubes.

Works with the Gen5 timer

The mat has mounts for the feet of the Speed Stacks Gen5 timer. They hold the timer in place, so it doesn't slide when you quickly put your hands down after a solve. The mounts fit the Gen5 generation only. You can put the mat under an older timer, e.g. Gen4, or a timer from another brand, but the timer won't be locked in place.

Thickness and cushioning

The mat is soft and cushions your cube if it slips out of your hands or is put down a bit harder. It also protects your desk from scratches. To be honest, though, the material is rather thin. If you expect a thick, heavily cushioned pad, you may find this mat too thin. For everyday practice with a timer, it is more than enough.

Who is it for?

For anyone who has a Speed Stacks Gen5 timer or plans to buy one and wants to practice in competition-like conditions. The mat is also handy when there isn't enough room on your desk for a long stacking mat. If you have an older timer, check its generation first, because the mounts work only with Gen5.
