Speed Stacks Gen5 Mat - Skyline

Speed Stacks Gen5 Mat - Skyline is an original fifth-generation (G5) sport stacking mat in one of the premium designs from the Speed Stacks range. It is sold separately, without a timer, so it's a good choice if you already have a G5 timer and want to replace a worn-out mat or switch to a new design. The mat is WSSA (World Sport Stacking Association) approved, which means it meets the requirements of the organization that runs sport stacking competitions.

What's new in the G5 generation

• New shape. The G5 mat has a different shape from older generations. According to the manufacturer, it fits more easily on a smaller table, and several mats can be placed side by side on a round table, which is handy for school classes and competitions.
• New timer mounting system. The timer snaps onto buttons on the mat instead of sitting in cut-out holes. This solves a problem familiar to users of older mats: holes that tear after the timer has been attached and removed many times.

Timer compatibility

The Gen5 mat works only with the Speed Stacks G5 timer. G4 and older timers cannot be attached to it, and the G5 timer cannot be attached to an older mat. Before you buy, check which generation of timer you have.

A mat for speedcubing?

The G5 timer has two modes: 4-Pad for sport stacking and 2-Pad for speedcubing. The WCA approves it for competitions in 2-Pad mode, so you can also use this mat for cube practice. However, this is a full-size stacking mat, noticeably larger than the separate Speed Stacks G5 speedcubing mat. If you only solve cubes and have little space on your desk, a smaller cubing mat may be more convenient. The large surface is mainly useful for cups.
