DaYan Skewb V2 Maglev UV

DaYan Skewb V2 Maglev UV

DaYan Skewb V2 Maglev UV is the more expensive of the two variants of the Skewb V2 M. Both variants have a magnetic Ball-Core, adjustable magnets and dual adjustment. In this version, the springs have been replaced with a MagLev system and the plastic has a glossy UV coating. In our shop, it is available in the stickerless bright colour scheme.

How it turns

This Skewb is fast and smooth, while still being fairly stable. Reviewers point out its good resistance to popping and lockups. Opinions on corner cutting are mixed: some people praise it, others rate it as average, so it is not the strongest point of this puzzle. The centers are contoured, with a small ridge near the edge that helps you hold the puzzle during fast turning.

Out of the box, the puzzle is sometimes set up too loose and may sound "sandy". Usually, all you need to do is tighten the tension and apply lube. A few users also mention that the caps over the adjustment are very tight and hard to remove.

Ball-Core, MagLev and adjustment

• Ball-Core with magnets between the corners and the core. They help align the layers and stabilize the puzzle during fast turning.
• MagLev instead of springs. Magnets provide the repelling force, so turning is lighter and there is no typical spring noise.
• Dual adjustment system: you set tension and compression separately.
• Adjustable corner magnets that change the strength of attraction to the core.
• You change all settings by hand, without a key.

Maglev UV or the spring version?

The spring version has matte plastic and also gets the Ball-Core, adjustable magnets and dual adjustment. So the puzzles differ in feel, not in the number of features. The Maglev UV turns more lightly and grips your fingers better thanks to the UV coating. The spring version offers a more classic, slightly more controllable turning feel and has a matte surface with medium grip.

Who is it for?

For people who practice Skewb for time and want a puzzle with extensive adjustment options. If you like fast MagLev turning and strong grip, this version makes sense. For your first Skewb, the cheaper spring variant is a better choice, as it has the same Ball-Core and the same adjustment.
