DaYan Megaminx Pro+ Maglev L

DaYan Megaminx Pro+ Maglev L is an enlarged version of the Megaminx Pro+, the successor to the Megaminx Pro. The mechanism comes from the MagLev version: instead of classic springs, it uses repelling magnets, while the magnetic core holds the corners and helps align the layers. The L model is designed for cubers who find the standard Pro+ too small in their hands. The puzzle comes in a stickerless bright version.

How it turns

Speedcubing shops describe the Pro+ MagLev as a fast megaminx that still stays controllable. Generous corner cutting forgives imprecise turns, which matters more on a puzzle with twelve faces than on a 3x3. MagLev reduces friction when turning, and the magnets in the core provide stability and pull the layers into place. The faces are lightly grooved for better grip. The Scratchless Frosty finish is matte and is meant to be scratch-resistant.

Users point out one practical drawback: removing the center caps, which you have to do before every adjustment, takes quite a bit of patience. If you set the puzzle up once to suit you, it is not a problem. Frequent setup changes can be frustrating, though.

MagLev, magnetic core and adjustment

• 220 magnets in the MagLev version. The spring-based Magnetic version has 160.
• Magnetic core (Ball-Core), meaning magnets between the corners and the core. They help with stability and auto-alignment.
• Numerical adjustment: 6 levels of center travel and 8 levels of tension.
• 5 levels of core magnet strength, from MIN to MAX. This lets you set the puzzle up more for speed or more for control.
• A set of black pieces that you can use to replace one colour, e.g. grey.

L version or standard?

The standard Pro+ has a 30.38 mm edge and is one of the smaller megaminxes on the market. The L version has the same set of features but is bigger and slightly heavier. It works better for people with larger hands and for those switching from larger megaminxes who do not want to change the size they are used to.

Who is it for?

For cubers who train megaminx seriously and want extensive adjustment options. For a first experience with this puzzle, a cheaper magnetic model without MagLev is usually enough.
