List of products by manufacturer Maru

A Taiwanese manufacturer known primarily for its light silicone- and water-based cube lube, often combined with thicker lubes. Maru has also released several puzzles, including 2x2, 3x3 and 4x4 cubes.

Among cubers, the Taiwanese brand Maru is known mainly for one product: its cube lube, which has been part of many speedcubers' maintenance kits for years. Maru has also released a few puzzles of its own, but today the name is associated primarily with lube.

Maru Lube – a light lube for cubes

The classic Maru Lube is a thin, milky-white silicone- and water-based fluid made specifically for cubes. It spreads well across the pieces and reduces turning resistance, so your cube feels lighter and faster. However, its effect is short-lived and you will need to reapply it after a while. That is why many cubers use it together with thicker silicone lubes. The thicker lube then provides longevity and control, while Maru adds speed.

A few practical tips:

  • shake the bottle before use, as sediment may collect at the bottom after longer storage,

  • a few drops are enough – too much lube can make the cube feel heavy and "rubbery",

  • cubes that feel too tight or heavy to turn benefit from it the most,

  • if you prefer a more controllable feel, you may find a cube lubed with Maru alone too loose,

  • many users like to use it in bigger cubes such as 4x4, 5x5 and larger.

We offer two lubes from this brand: the classic Maru Lube and Maru Lube Thick, a version with a thicker consistency. You will find the details of both products on their pages.

Maru cubes and puzzles

Maru also made cubes. Around 2009, it released a 2x2 cube with a screw-and-spring mechanism. At the time, it was considered solid and not very prone to popping. In the same period, a DIY 3x3 kit, also known as ShengLan, came out – it worked best only after being lubed with the brand's own lube. Later came the XD, CX3, CM-3 and VX-3 3x3 cubes, among others. The VX-3 was also available in magnetic versions, including MagLev. Maru also released two generations of a 4x4 cube and miniature 3x3 cubes, such as a keychain cube and a collectible nano cube with an edge of about 15 mm from 2015.

Most of these models are no longer produced and cannot compete with today's speed cubes. Today the brand matters on the market mainly thanks to its lubes, which work well as an addition to your own lube collection.
