Maru Lube is an affordable silicone lube for cubes. For years it was standard kit for almost every cuber, and many people used it on their first speedcubes before specialized lubes with different viscosities appeared on the market. Today it is an older-generation lube, but it still works well for simple, everyday cube maintenance. The bottle holds 10 ml.

How it works on a cube

According to user reviews, Maru lube noticeably speeds up the cube after application and reduces resistance when turning. It does a good job of reviving a cube that hasn't been lubed for a long time and has become dry or scratchy. In practice, it is often compared to fast, thin lubes for pieces.

Keep in mind that the effect doesn't last long. With intensive solving, after a while the cube starts to feel drier again and you'll need to add another drop of lube. If you want to fine-tune the feel, for example towards more control or more speed, or if durability matters to you, you'll usually be better off with more modern lubes dedicated to pieces or to the core.

How to use

• Apply a small amount: a few drops per cube is enough. Too much lube can slow down turning.
• After applying, do a few dozen turns so the lube spreads across the pieces.
• Maru lube can be combined with other silicone lubes, for example with a thicker lube for the core and springs.
• Before using it in a MagLev or Ball-Core cube, check the cube manufacturer's recommendations.

Who is it for?

Maru lube is a good choice for beginners, parents buying the first lube for their child's cube, and anyone who wants to refresh a few older or budget cubes cheaply. An advanced speedcuber will treat it more as a quick, inexpensive maintenance extra than as the main lube for fine-tuning a competition setup.
