List of products by manufacturer Meffert's

Meffert's is a brand founded by Uwe Mèffert, the creator of the Pyraminx. Since 1981, it has been producing unusual logic puzzles, from Skewb and Pyraminx variants to gear cubes such as the Gear Cube. These models are all about the idea and the design, not solve times, which is why they're chosen mainly by collectors and puzzle enthusiasts.

Meffert's is the brand where the story of the Pyraminx began. Uwe Mèffert, a German puzzle designer (1939–2022), lived in Asia from the 1970s, mainly in Hong Kong. He designed the Pyraminx even before the Rubik's Cube was created. In 1981, during the first cube craze, he founded a company that started producing it. Today, Meffert's puzzles are bought mainly as interesting collector's puzzles rather than as gear for breaking records.

Meffert's puzzle manufacturer: from the Pyraminx to the Gear Cube

Meffert's didn't only make its own designs. From the very beginning, the company also brought puzzles by other creators to market. Thanks to Meffert's, puzzles such as the Megaminx, Tony Durham's Skewb and the Skewb Diamond went on sale. Later, Meffert's worked with Dutch designer Oskar van Deventer. In 2010, the company started mass production of his Gear Cube, a cube whose faces turn thanks to interlocking gears.

What you'll find in our range

  • Skewb and Pyraminx variants: Meffert's Skewb Ultimate (a dodecahedron with a Skewb mechanism) and the Master Pyraminx in a pillowed version with curved faces.

  • Gear puzzles: Maltese Gear Cube and David Gear Cube. When you turn one layer, the gears make other pieces move too. These cubes are solved differently from a classic 3x3.

  • Unusual shapes and collector's models: Oskar Wooden Treasure Chest, Venus Cube, Flowerminx and Metalised Egg 3x3.

Who are Meffert's puzzles for?

They're a great choice if you can already solve a 3x3 cube and are looking for something new: a different shape, mechanism or way of solving. Many of these puzzles look great on a shelf, so they're popular with collectors. They also make a good gift for anyone who enjoys logic puzzles.

Speedcubers should keep in mind that Meffert's doesn't compete with flagship cubes from GAN or MoYu. These models are all about the idea and the design, not magnets and tension adjustment. If you need a Pyraminx or Skewb for competitions and timed practice, a modern magnetic speedcube is a better choice.
