EStar is a new brand of magnetic WCA puzzles that distributors associate with ESCube. Its range includes the Clock in Standard and Bearing versions with adjustable magnets, and a Square-1 with MagLev and a UV finish.

EStar (also written as ESTAR) is a brand of magnetic puzzles for WCA events. International distributors list ESCube as the manufacturer. The brand is quite new: its first model, the EStar Clock, came out in early 2026. Instead of launching yet another 3x3 cube, EStar started with events where the choice of hardware is much smaller: Clock and Square-1.

EStar Clock: a magnetic clock in two versions

The EStar Clock has magnetic positioning, so the dials stop clearly at each hour. You can change the magnet strength. The set includes spare magnets and a magnetic screwdriver that makes swapping them easy. Teflon rings help keep the lube inside the mechanism, and a central magnetic ring stops the magnets from falling out. The casing has a flat edge, so the clock stands upright before the start.

  • Standard: the version without bearings, with magnetic positioning and adjustable magnets.

  • Bearing: has bearings and 10 repelling magnets that help with centering during fast turning. It is also available in a limited colour edition.

In early reviews, users praise the smoothness of both versions. Some people, however, find the bearing version slightly less controllable. These are subjective impressions, not a technical specification.

EStar Square-1 Magnetic MagLev UV

Instead of springs, this Square-1 uses MagLev, meaning tension based on repelling magnets. The magnets are arranged on two tracks. The inner ring pulls the layer into the correct position, even when it is off by up to about 15°. The outer ring stabilizes the layers and cushions the movement. Corner cutting on the inner track forgives slightly incomplete turns, while the mechanism on the outer track reduces popping. The Square-1 offers a lot of adjustment: three top/bottom setting levels, five numbered tension settings and stepless axis adjustment. The puzzle has a glossy UV finish and comes in two versions: with a black or a yellow top face.

Who are EStar puzzles for?

They are most useful for people who practise Clock or Square-1 and want to tune their hardware to suit them: magnet strength, tension or the way the puzzle centers. Beginners will also appreciate the magnetic positioning, as it makes hitting the positions easier. However, the extensive adjustment options will mainly benefit those who already know what feel they are looking for. Keep in mind that this is a young brand. There are no newer generations of its models yet, so what we know about its puzzles comes mainly from early reviews.
