Puzzle cube sets bring several puzzles together in one box. Most often they contain a range of cube sizes, e.g. 2x2-5x5 or 2x2-7x7, or a collection of puzzles in shapes other than a cube. They're a convenient way to start with several sizes at once. They also make a great gift for someone who has already mastered the 3x3 and wants to try something new. In this category you'll find sets from MoYu, QiYi, ShengShou, DianSheng, YJ, FanXin and GAN.
Some sets, e.g. MoYu MeiLong M, QiYi Magnetic Set and DianSheng 2-7 Magnetic, come in magnetic versions. Magnets inside the cube help the layers "snap" into the right place. As a result, the cube is less likely to overturn and is easier to control when solving faster. Non-magnetic versions are cheaper and are perfectly fine for learning to solve. If you already own a magnetic 3x3, you'll usually notice the difference in favour of the M version quickly.
For first steps and as a gift for a child, the budget MoYu MeiLong, QiYi, DianSheng and ShengShou series are a good choice. The cubes in these series are not flagship models. You'll quickly learn algorithms on them and move from smaller sizes to bigger ones, but if you have competitive ambitions, sooner or later you'll want to buy a better 3x3 separately. GAN Blue Box sets contain higher-end models from this manufacturer. WCA sets make sense for those who want to practise the various events held at competitions before committing to more expensive individual models.
