MoYu MeiLong Set: Pyraminx, Megaminx, Skewb and Square-1

The box contains four non-NxNxN puzzles, and each of them is an official WCA event. The MoYu MeiLong Pyraminx + Megaminx + Skewb + Square-1 Set belongs to the MeiLong line from the MoFang JiaoShi (Cubing Classroom) sub-brand. This is MoYu's budget series, designed for people who are just starting to solve. The puzzles come in a decorative box with a carrying handle, so the set also works well as a gift.

What's in the set

  1. MeiLong Pyraminx: a tetrahedron that many people start with when they move on to puzzles other than cubes. Solves are short, and the basics are easy to learn.
  2. MeiLong Megaminx: a dodecahedron. The solving methods are similar to 3x3, but a solve takes much longer.
  3. MeiLong Skewb: it has only four axes of rotation and turns around the corners, so it requires a completely different way of thinking than a 3x3 cube.
  4. MeiLong Square-1: it changes shape while you solve it. It usually takes the most time before you can solve it smoothly.

How they turn

All four puzzles are entry-level models. The set lets you try out each event, but it won't replace competition-grade puzzles. According to user reviews, the pieces can feel dry straight out of the box. A light silicone lube and some time for breaking in the mechanism make a big difference. The Square-1 is considered surprisingly good for its price, and the slice turns easily. The Skewb is fast but not very stable. The Megaminx gets the most criticism: during fast turning, lockups and uneven layer tension can occur. These are user impressions, not technical specifications, and individual units may behave slightly differently.

Who is this set for?

For someone who can already solve a 3x3 and wants to find out which non-NxNxN puzzles they enjoy before buying more expensive models. The set also makes a great gift for a child who likes cubes. If you already train a specific event for time, sooner or later you'll switch to a mid-range magnetic puzzle. This will often be the Megaminx or Skewb, as the difference is most noticeable with these two.

    Niesamowita jakoś jak za tą cenę

    Szukam jakichś kostek których nie mam bo dopiero zaczynam, i chcę zobaczyć megaminxa meilonga. Patrzę cena 35 zł ja trochę zniechęcomy zjeżdżam w dół i widzę ten zestaw. Od razu kupuję dostawa mega szybka i biorę się do testowania.

    Skewb - moim zdaniem najgorsza kostka z zestawu ale nie ma na co narzekać jak za taką cenę
    Megaminx - mega fajna układanka, trzeba trochę posiedzieć ale jest mega. Ma mały próg ścinania ale jest bardzo dobry
    Pyraminx - patrząc po innych opiniach myślę że miałem niezwykłe szczęście. Moim zdaniem jest to najlepsza kostka w zestawie. Porusza się świetnie i ścina również. Jest to mój pierwszy pyraminx ale już wiem że nie będe go wymieniał. Jest po prostu świetny. Łapię za niego i już się cieszę. Jest mega cichutki i ogólnie idealny.

    W tej cenie świetny zestaw

    Szukałem taniego sposobu by kupić Square-1 i coś jeszcze. Strzał w dziesiątkę.
    Pyraminx - trochę ciężko chodzi, ale na początek jest OK
    Square-1 - świetny, spełnia oczekiwania
    Skewb - bardzo ruchliwy, miesza się od samego trzymania. Dla mnie ma to swój urok i zaskakuje znajomych, znających tylko Rubika. Nie mam porównania z innymi Skewbami, więc nie wiem na ile jest to efekt pożądany.
    Megaminx - trzeba układać bardzo równo, bo ma problem ze ścinaniem, zacina się czasem. Po kilku ułożeniach niektóre naklejki powoli zaczynają się odklejać. Tu warto przypomnieć cenę tego cuda.

    Jeśli ktoś po 3x3x3 nie wie co chciałby jeszcze układać, to jest to świetny starter. Ja na pewno kiedyś kupię lepszego Megaminxa i Pyraminxa.
