Isopropyl alcohol (IPA) is the go-to cleaner for cubes. Isopropyl alcohol in a spray bottle removes old lube, adhesive residue and dirt from plastic pieces without damaging their surface. How it helps with your cubes

• Cleaning before re-lubing. Before you apply new lube or switch to a different one, it's a good idea to remove the old one. If you mix two different lubes, it's hard to predict how the cube will feel.
• Setting up from scratch. If you don't like the factory lube, wipe the pieces with IPA and set up the cube your way.
• Adhesive residue. After removing stickers, a sticky layer often stays on the pieces. Isopropyl alcohol dissolves it well.
• Dirt and greasy marks. A cube used for a long time collects dirt from your fingers. IPA removes it from the outside of the cube and from inside the mechanism.

How to clean a cube with isopropyl alcohol

Take the cube apart and spray the pieces, or spray a cloth or cotton swab, then wipe the areas with lube and dirt. IPA evaporates quickly, so no water is left in the mechanism, unlike washing with water and dish soap. Wait until the pieces are completely dry before applying new lube. With magnetic cubes or cubes with a UV coating, it's better to wipe the pieces than to leave them soaking in the liquid for a long time.

Isopropyl alcohol is flammable. Use it in a well-ventilated area, away from open flames, and keep it out of the reach of children. If a child is cleaning the cube, an adult should be present.
