Calvins Puzzle Bai-Niao-Chao-Feng Fisher Cube

A shape-shifting puzzle from Calvins Puzzle, built on a standard 3x3 mechanism. The Bai-Niao-Chao-Feng Fisher Cube is solved the same way as the classic Fisher Cube, but it has one colour change that can surprise even people who already know this shape mod. The name comes from a Chinese saying about a hundred birds flying to the phoenix. We offer the version with a black body (Black).

How the Fisher Cube works

In the Fisher Cube, the side cutting planes are rotated 45 degrees around the vertical axis. The top and bottom layers turn normally and don't change the cube's shape. A few side-layer moves, however, are enough to turn the cube into an irregular shape. Inside, a 3x3 mechanism is working the whole time, so knowing how to solve a regular cube gives you a good starting point. The hardest part is recognising the pieces once the shape has been scrambled.

What makes the Bai-Niao-Chao-Feng version different

The solving order is the same as on a traditional Fisher. The difference is that the corner pieces have only one colour. On a standard Fisher, the colours on these pieces show how they should be oriented. Here you don't get that hint, so near the end of the solve you may run into parity cases you don't know from the regular version. You need to be able to recognise and solve them, so even an experienced cuber will find something new here.

Who is it for?

This puzzle is best for people who have already solved a regular Fisher Cube or other 3x3 shape mods and are looking for something with an extra twist. It's meant for relaxed solving and collecting, not for setting fast times. If this is going to be your first shape-shifting puzzle, it's better to start with a standard Fisher or a Mirror Cube and pick up the Bai-Niao-Chao-Feng later. It also makes a great gift for someone who already has the typical shape mods in their collection.
