Calvins Puzzle Bai-Niao-Chao-Feng Twist-Minx Cube is a shape-shifting puzzle designed as a Megaminx shape mod. On the shelf it looks like an ordinary solid shape, but after a few moves it changes form and starts to look like a mess with no clear order. It's a puzzle for collectors and anyone who enjoys unusual puzzles, not a cube for setting records. The version available in our shop has a black body.

How it solves

Once scrambled, the puzzle loses its original shape, so while solving you have to keep track of both the colors and the geometry. The layer movement is based on Megaminx logic. If you've already solved a Megaminx or Kilominx, you'll recognize some of the patterns. However, the shape-shifting means you can't simply transfer known algorithms one to one.

One reviewer notes that the cuts and the way it turns resemble the Phoenix Megaminx. Here, however, all pieces have stickers, and the puzzle is not a sandwich version. If you like that mechanism, the Twist-Minx takes the same idea further.

Difficulty

Sources rate the difficulty differently, but most consider it a challenging puzzle. If you only solve the 3x3 cube, get ready to learn a new way of thinking rather than solving it in one evening. On the other hand, it's based on the familiar Megaminx mechanism, so you're not starting from scratch.

Who is it for?

For cubers who already know the basic cubes and are looking for something other than yet another speed cube. The Twist-Minx also fits well into a collection of shape-shifting puzzles and Megaminx mods, as it looks great both solved and mid-solve. For a child's first cube, a classic 3x3 model is usually a better choice.
