The name says it all. Calvins Puzzle Double Megaminx is two megaminxes, each with one face removed, joined at that point into a single body. The result is an elongated megaminx shape mod. It looks completely different from a classic dodecahedron and instantly catches the eye on a shelf.

How does it work?

The two halves are connected, so not all faces can turn freely. Some moves are blocked, which means the puzzle is bandaged. This bandaging is what sets the Double Megaminx apart from two separate megaminxes. While solving, you need to plan the order of your moves and keep track of which layers can be turned at any given moment. Otherwise it's easy to block your own next steps.

The foundation is knowing how to solve a regular megaminx. If you can solve one, you have a starting point. However, the areas around the joint need some extra thought, and standard algorithms won't always be enough.

Construction and colour versions

This is a non-magnetic puzzle. It wasn't designed for speedsolving. What counts is the solution itself, not TPS. It weighs approx. 238 g, noticeably more than a single megaminx. Two versions are available:

• Stickerless Bright – coloured plastic with no stickers. There's nothing to wear off or peel.
• Black – a black body with coloured stickers. A more classic look with clear contrast.

Calvins Puzzle also offers a larger Jumbo Double Megaminx. The model described here is the standard, smaller version.

Who is it for?

This puzzle is for those who can already solve a megaminx and are looking for something new. It will also delight collectors of shape mods and unusual puzzles. It's not suitable as your first dodecahedron puzzle. It's better to start with a regular megaminx and reach for the Double Megaminx once the basic model no longer feels like a challenge.
