Calvins Puzzle Gear 2x2 Plus Cube is an extended version of the 2x2 gear cube from the Bram & Oskar line. This one has a black body and classic stickers in six colors. It's a puzzle for collectors and anyone who enjoys unusual mechanisms. It is not a speedcubing cube. What matters here is understanding how the gears work, not TPS.

How the Gear 2x2 works

At first glance it looks like an ordinary 2x2 cube. The difference shows when you turn it. On two axes the layers turn just like on a standard 2x2. On the third axis there are gears that rotate along with the layer movement. As a result, a single move changes not only the position of the pieces but also the orientation of the gears. You have to take this into account when planning your solve, so the methods you know from the 2x2 cube won't be enough.

What makes the Plus version different?

The Plus version has 8 additional pieces that the basic Gear 2x2 doesn't have. There's more to keep track of on the cube, and solving it is harder. If you're just getting to know gear puzzles, it will be easier to start with the standard version. The Plus version makes more sense if you already know the basic variant or want a tougher challenge right away.
