Calvins Puzzle Mirror Skewb

Calvins Puzzle Mirror Skewb is a mirror version of the skewb, a shape mod that loses its cube shape once scrambled. The mechanism works just like a regular skewb: half of the puzzle turns around one of four diagonal axes running through the corners. The difference is that the pieces are not symmetrical, so after just a few moves the cube turns into an irregular shape. The body is black, and the reflective stickers come factory-applied. The white face carries the Calvin's Puzzle logo.

Colour and shape at the same time

Classic mirror cubes usually have all faces in a single colour and are solved by shape alone. In this Mirror Skewb, turns scramble both the colours and the shape. A solved puzzle must have uniform faces and return to its cube form at the same time. The colours help you get your bearings, but with the changed geometry it is easy to mix up pieces that look identical on a regular skewb. This puzzle calls for more spatial thinking than the standard model.

The general skewb solving method still works, because the moves and the solving scheme stay the same. The only difference is how you recognise the pieces' positions and orientation.

Who is it for?

For those who can already solve a skewb and want to take it on in a new form. It will also appeal to collectors of shape mods and mirror-type puzzles. This is not a cube for timed speedcubing or competitions, as shape mods are not a WCA event. If you are just starting out with the skewb, learn to solve the standard skewb first and only then move on to the mirror version.
