The SIDGMAN 2x4x6 Fisher Spiral Cube from Calvins Puzzle is a shape mod based on the 2x4x6 cuboid. It was designed by Patricio Sidgman Rivera. The SIDGMAN series combines two ideas: the classic pillow-style 2x4x6 and the Fisher Cube. The designer flattened the pillow 2x4x6 and rotated its orientation by 45 degrees, just like in the Fisher Cube. The Spiral version has a spiral-shaped arrangement of pieces on the top and bottom faces, so at first glance these layers look as if they can't be turned at all.

How it solves

The mechanism is the same as in the SIDGMAN 2x4x6 Fisher Cuboid. The difference is how the top and bottom layer pieces are arranged in the solved state: they don't sit in their natural positions. Before you start scrambling, you need to make a few setup moves that unlock all the turns. Only then does the actual solving begin. With this puzzle, bandaging and shape-shifting go hand in hand. Some moves are blocked at any given moment, and once scrambled, the puzzle loses its regular shape. That's why you have to think not only about the colors, but also about how to restore the puzzle to its proper form.

• Fisher Cuboid: the basic variant, resembling the classic Fisher Cube.
• Fisher Brick Wall: the sides look like a brick wall, so you need a setup even before the first scrambling move.

This is a puzzle for people who have already mastered the 3x3, the 4x4 and a few shape mods. Experience with cuboids and bandaged puzzles helps a lot. It's not a speedcubing puzzle: it has no magnets or UV coating, and what counts here is figuring out the mechanism, not the time. It's also a great fit for collectors of unusual Calvins Puzzle designs. For a child's first puzzle, it's better to choose a simpler model.
