Calvins Puzzle Timur Gear Corner Turning Octahedron

Timur Gear Corner Turning Octahedron is an octahedron-shaped puzzle with turning corners. It was designed by Timur Evbatyrov and is produced by Calvins Puzzle. The edges and corners are gears, so with every corner turn the edges mesh together and rotate around their own axes. We offer the version with a black body and coloured stickers.

How the gear mechanism works

The move set resembles a classic corner-turning octahedron, which in practice is a shape related to the 3x3 cube. The difference lies in the gears. The puzzle has 6 corners and 12 edges, and each of these pieces is an eight-tooth gear. The triangular face centers have no teeth. After a quarter turn, the edges are rotated by 5/8 of a full turn and the corner itself by 7/8. Just a few moves are enough to make the puzzle look completely scrambled.

When solving it, you need to keep track not only of where the pieces are but also of the orientation of each gear. If you already know the 3x3 and other twisty puzzles, this is a great chance to practise something new. It is not a puzzle for speedcubing, but for calmly working out the mechanism.

Turning knob included

The corners of the octahedron are small and hard to grip with your fingers. That is why the puzzle comes with a turning knob that you attach to a corner. This makes turning more comfortable and smoother.
