Timur Gear Skewb is a geared Skewb designed by Timur Evbatyrov, the creator of many gear-type puzzles. It is produced by Calvins Puzzle. It is based on the classic Skewb, a puzzle that turns around its corners rather than its faces like a 3x3. What makes the difference are the gears on the centers and corners. When you turn a layer, the meshed pieces rotate along with it, so solving the colors is only part of the challenge. You also have to keep track of the orientation of the gears. This version has a black body.

How is it different from a regular Skewb?

The regular Skewb is a WCA event and a puzzle for speedsolving. The Gear Skewb is a puzzle for taking your time and figuring things out, not for setting records. If you know the Gear Cube, you will recognize the same idea here: thanks to the gears, after just a few moves the puzzle looks far more scrambled than the number of turns would suggest. Knowing a Skewb method helps, but it is not enough. You need to understand how the gears react to each move and adapt your algorithms accordingly. The puzzle is widely considered challenging and is not easy to solve without preparation.
