The Timur Royal Pyraminx was designed by Timur Evbatyrov, the creator of the Master Pyraminx (4 layers) and the Professor Pyraminx (5 layers). Calvins Puzzle brought it into mass production. It is one of the largest mass-produced Pyraminx puzzles. It is noticeably harder than the Master and the Professor, so it is mainly for collectors and anyone who enjoys big, unusual puzzles.

How to solve the Royal Pyraminx

The Royal has an even number of layers, so you solve it much like a 4x4 or 6x6 cube: first you build the centers, then you pair up the edges, and finally you move on to a stage similar to a regular Pyraminx. Along the way you need to keep track of the correct color scheme, because there are no fixed pieces to define it. Users also mention edge parity. If you have already solved a Master Pyraminx or even-layered cubes, you can carry over many of the methods without any trouble.

Mechanism and turning

The Royal Pyraminx turns properly right out of the box, but it is not a speedcube. Corner cutting is limited, and if the layers are poorly aligned, lockups and catching happen easily. If you turn too aggressively, pieces can pop out, and putting the puzzle back together takes patience. It is best to turn calmly and align the layers carefully before each move.
