Calvins Puzzle TomZ 4x4x6 Cuboid

TomZ 4x4x6 Cuboid is a 4x4x6 cuboid designed by Tom van der Zanden, known in the community as TomZ. It is made by Calvins Puzzle. The puzzle has the shape of a rectangular box: two faces have a 4x4 layout and the four side faces are 4x6. Once you start scrambling it, it stops being a box, because it changes not only its colors but also its shape. This version has a black body and stickers.

How solving a 4x4x6 cuboid works

The top and bottom faces turn just like on a regular 4x4. The side faces are a different story. When you turn them, pieces stick out beyond the outline and the puzzle loses its rectangular shape. That is why you usually restore the cuboid shape first and only then solve the colors. A large part of the solve resembles a 4x4x4, so knowing reduction and parity from the 4x4 really helps here. Even so, many standard algorithms will not work without modifications, because the sides have unequal dimensions.

How it turns

Users and sellers describe the mechanism as smooth and stable, with decent corner cutting for a cuboid. The puzzle has no magnets. It is meant for relaxed solving and collecting rather than chasing times, so there is no point comparing it with flagship speedcubing cubes.
