Cubicle Compound X Lube

Cubicle Compound X Lube

Cubicle Compound X Lube is a cube lube that slows your cube down instead of speeding it up. It is water-based and applied to the pieces (piece lube). It was developed by Angstrom Research, TheCubicle's lube line, which is why you will often see it sold as Angstrom Compound X. It comes in handy when your cube is too fast for you, keeps overshooting or is hard to control at higher TPS.

How it works

Compound X contains charged silicone polymers. Their mutual attraction slows down the movement of the layers. As a result, the cube turns slower and more smoothly, but it does not become gummy, as often happens with thick silicone lubes. According to the manufacturer, the slowing effect lasts longer than with regular silicone. Users most often describe a cube lubed with Compound X as slower and more controllable, but without any "drag". On medium-speed cubes, some also notice a softer, buttery feel.

The lube has an intense, sweet pomegranate scent. Some people love it, others find it too strong.

How to use

• Apply it to the plastic pieces of the cube; a few drops are usually enough.
• Do not apply it to springs or screws. Water-based lube can cause metal parts to rust, so it is not suitable for the core.
• After applying, turn the cube a few dozen times and give the lube a moment to spread. Only then judge the effect.
• The lube is safe for skin contact, but it must not be swallowed or exposed to high temperatures.

Who is it for?

Compound X makes the most sense for fast, strongly magnetic cubes that are still too fast out of the box or after adjustment. It is useful for cubers who want to keep their setup while taking away some speed and gaining more control. If your cube is new, stiff or already turns slowly, Compound X will slow it down even more. In that case, a speed-increasing lube is a better choice. It is usually not needed for a child's first cube.
