Cyclone Boys 2x2x2

The Cyclone Boys 2x2x2 is the brand's first 2x2 cube. It's simple and affordable, and you can use it in competitions without any modifications. The mechanism is fairly old. The pieces and internal layout resemble the WitTwo by Type C, a design that many 2x2 cubes have been modelled on for years. There are no magnets, no Ball-Core and none of the other newer features here. What you do get is a fast cube that works well for everyday solving.

How it turns

Turning is light and fast, and learning the full set of 2x2 moves on it is no problem. Straight out of the box, though, the cube can feel average. Users say that only after lubing and setting the tension do you see what it can really do. Without magnets, the layers don't snap into place on their own. During fast turning you need to be a bit more precise to avoid lockups. There's an upside too: a cube like this makes it easy to develop clean turning.

Tension adjustment

You change the tension with the adjustment screws. After removing the caps, you can tighten them when the cube is too loose and starts to misalign, or loosen them when it turns too stiffly. Once you take it out of the box, it's worth spending a moment on it: apply some lube and even out the tension on all axes. That's enough to make the cube perform noticeably better.

Who is this 2x2 cube for?

It's a good first 2x2 cube, a cube for a child, a cube for learning the beginner's method, or a spare to keep in your backpack. It will also work well for someone who solves 3x3 and wants to try a smaller cube at a low cost. A speedcuber who trains 2x2 seriously will be looking for something else. Modern magnetic 2x2 cubes are more stable and more forgiving at high TPS. You can feel that difference after just a few solves.
