Cyclone Boys Metallic Mirror Magnetic

Cyclone Boys Metallic Mirror Magnetic

Cyclone Boys Metallic Mirror Magnetic is a magnetic mirror cube (Mirror Cube, Mirror Blocks) with a reflective, metallic surface. It works just like a regular 3x3, but all the faces are the same colour. Instead, the pieces differ in thickness, so once scrambled, the cube loses its cube shape. You solve it by shape, not by colour. The model comes in three colour versions: Golden, Silver and Red.

How to solve a mirror cube

Mechanically it's still a 3x3, so if you can solve a classic cube, you can use the same method. The challenge lies in recognising the pieces. You can't see colours, so you have to look at which piece is thicker and which is thinner, and match them to their neighbours. At first, every solve takes noticeably longer than on a regular 3x3. Over time, you learn to see more clearly where each piece is going.

Magnets and finish

• Magnetic version. The magnets help the layers settle into place, so there's less catching when you turn. On a cube with uneven pieces, this makes a clear difference compared with cheaper mirror cubes without magnets.
• Reflective, metallic surface. It looks striking, but it reflects a lot of light and picks up fingerprints easily. To keep it shiny, it's best to handle it with clean hands and wipe it with a soft cloth from time to time.
• Factory setup. According to one user review, the cube can be loose straight out of the box, and the screws sit quite deep. You may therefore need a longer screwdriver to change the tension.

Who is it for?

For people who can already solve a 3x3 and want to try something different without learning new algorithms. It's a great second puzzle after the classic cube, as well as an eye-catching piece for your collection shelf. For a first cube, a regular 3x3 is a better choice, because a mirror cube makes it harder to understand how the layers work. The Metallic Mirror is not a cube for speedsolving. When turning fast, the reflective surface and uneven pieces make it harder to control.
