DaYan Megaminx V2 M is DaYan's second megaminx. It came out in 2020, a few years after the company's first megaminx, which was well known in this event in its time. It is not just an improved version of the old model. It has a new, small body, 120 magnets in the edges and corners, and weighs only 99 g, which is very light for a magnetic megaminx. It comes in a stickerless bright version.

How it turns

The V2 M is clearly fast. The light body and low resistance let the faces turn almost effortlessly, and corner cutting forgives quite a few imprecise moves. For some people it is even too fast, so cubers sometimes slow it down on purpose by tightening it more or using a thicker lube. The magnets are medium strength. They help the faces snap into place but don't hold back your turning. If you like a strong, distinct "click", you may find them a little too weak.

The pieces have wave-shaped grooves, similar to those in DaYan's 3x3 cubes such as the TengYun V1 and V2 and the GuHong V3 and V4. Thanks to them, the puzzle turns quietly, without that rough plastic-on-plastic sound.

Size and grip

Next to the popular YJ YuHu, this megaminx looks like a younger sibling. Its small size makes it easier to hold and turn quickly, especially if you have smaller hands. The faces are slightly concave and have shallow embossed patterns that improve the grip. This is a development of a solution known from DaYan's first megaminx. Tension is adjusted with screws, and a screwdriver is included.

Who is it for?

Above all, for cubers who solve megaminx regularly and enjoy fast, light puzzles. It also works well as a first magnetic megaminx for someone who has already mastered the 3x3 cube. Just keep in mind that it can be harder to control at first. If you prefer a heavier, more controllable feel and stronger magnets, it's worth checking out other models too. The puzzle is legal for official competitions.
