DaYan TengYun 2x2 Plus M

DaYan TengYun 2x2 Plus M

DaYan TengYun 2x2 Plus M is a magnetic 2x2 cube from 2021 and the follow-up to the original TengYun 2x2 M. In some markets this model is sold as the TengYun V2 M. Compared with the V1, it has three-level magnet strength adjustment, stronger magnets and a revised magnet layout. It measures 51 mm, weighs about 65 g and is legal for official WCA competitions.

How it turns

Out of the box, the cube feels slightly scratchy and makes a distinctive, rough sound that is more reminiscent of older puzzles than of modern flagships. This feel isn't for everyone, but once broken in and lubed, the cube usually turns more smoothly. Users most often praise its stability. The strong magnets snap the layers firmly into place, so the cube rarely misaligns, even during fast turning. Corner cutting is decent and comparable to other 2x2 cubes in this segment.

Magnet and tension adjustment

• 3 levels of magnet strength. You change the setting with the key included in the set. The adjuster is in an unusual place, next to the tension screws. Fun fact: even on the weakest setting, the magnets are stronger than in the TengYun V1.
• Tension screws. You adjust the tension with the included screwdriver, and the service manual shows you how to do it.

Who is it for?

This model is aimed at advanced cubers who want to set up the cube to suit their style and prefer a distinctly magnetic, stable feel. The weakest setting will come in handy if the cube feels too "heavy" to you with strong magnets. Beginners can handle it too, but won't take full advantage of the magnet adjustment right away.

DaYan has been making cubes used by top competitors for years. In 2x2, the world record of 0.49 s set by Polish cuber Maciej Czapiewski stood for a long time. It was only broken by Teodor Zajder with a time of 0.43 s at Warsaw Cube Masters 2023.
