DaYan TengYun 2x2x2 Magnetic

After the TengYun 3x3 M, DaYan brought the same design approach to a smaller cube. The result is the second cube in the flagship TengYun series. DaYan TengYun 2x2x2 Magnetic is a 50 mm magnetic 2x2 cube, released in 2019 and approved for official competitions. DaYan has had a strong position in 2x2 for years, and the first TengYun 2x2 continues that tradition.

Design taken from the TengYun 3x3

The internals of the cube are similar to the TengYun 3x3 M mechanism. The main difference is that the centers have no stabilizing protrusion. The leading edges are deeply rounded, which improves corner cutting. As in the 3x3 version, the side surfaces of the outer corner pieces do not touch each other. This solution is a trademark of the series.

How it turns

Turning is very light, and the magnets are strong and clearly noticeable. Reviewers point out that this magnet strength suits both an aggressive and a lighter turning style. The cube handles high TPS well without a tendency to overshoot. Corner cutting is very good and improves further as the cube breaks in.

Out of the box, the tension is rather loose. On bigger cuts the pieces noticeably separate, so it's worth tightening the screws to begin with. The feel is light and fairly "airy". If you prefer a heavier, more solid 2x2 cube, it may suit you less.

Springs and adjustment

You change the tension with the adjustment screws. Extra springs are included with the cube, so together with the factory-installed ones you get 3 sets of different stiffness. Softer springs give faster, freer turning, while stiffer ones give more stable and controllable behavior.

TengYun or TengYun V2?

This is the first generation of the TengYun 2x2. The newer V2 has a different magnet layout and a separate spring compression adjustment system. If you don't need compression adjustment, the first version gives you a light and fast character with a simpler setup.

Who is it for?

For anyone who practices 2x2 for time and wants a cube with strong magnets, good corner cutting and the option to customize the springs. It also works well as a first more serious 2x2 cube after a cheap beginner model. Just spend a moment setting the tension at the start.
