DaYan TengYun M 3x3x3

DaYan TengYun M 3x3x3 is the eighth 3x3 model in DaYan's history. It was also the brand's first cube sold with factory-installed magnets. It was released in 2019, after years in which DaYan was mainly associated with the ZhanChi. The TengYun M has an unusual internal design, and from the very beginning it stood out above all for being very quiet. The cube is available with a black body and as a stickerless bright version.

How it turns

The cube turns with very little resistance, and the turning is smooth and quiet. Because of this, many cubers consider the TengYun one of the quietest full-size 3x3 cubes. Corner cutting is on par with top speedcubes. The magnets are medium strength, so the cube feels fast and light, but it is not one of the most stable cubes. On looser screw settings, popping and catching can occur. Out of the box, the cube is often set up fairly loose and heavily lubed, so it's usually worth tightening it slightly and waiting for the excess lube to settle.

Design

• Tall centers with protrusions known from the FangShi ShuangRen design, which MoYu later adopted in the WeiLong GTS series. Their bottom surface practically touches the core.
• Edges have a side skirt and a deep groove at the base. The shell is one-piece, and the ring magnets are held in place by semi-transparent plastic caps.
• Corners have a two-piece internal structure with a press-fit foot. The outer caps snap into place and are practically impossible to remove.
• Tension adjustment works via the screws and by swapping springs. Three sets of springs with different stiffness are included. The magnet strength cannot be adjusted.

TengYun M vs. newer versions

This is the first generation of the TengYun. In the TengYun V2 M and V3, DaYan added magnet strength adjustment and a more advanced tension and compression adjustment system. The original TengYun doesn't have these extras, but it keeps the simple design and the quiet, smooth turning the series is known for.

Who is it for?

This cube is for you if you like fast, light cubes with good corner cutting. It's also a good choice if quiet turning matters to you, for example when solving in the evening or at school. If you prefer strong magnets and a very stable cube, you may need to tighten the screws, or a newer, adjustable model may suit you better.
