This is the third generation of the TengYun, the series that built DaYan's reputation for quiet, smooth turning. DaYan TengYun V3 3x3 M is a 55.5 mm magnetic speed cube weighing 79 g. What sets it apart from previous versions is mainly its adjustment system. Tension, spring compression and magnet strength are all set independently, giving you 60 combinations in total. The version we sell is stickerless bright.

Feel and turning behavior

The V3 has a smooth, fairly dry feel and a soft, muted turning sound. It is a little louder than the original TengYun, but it is still one of the quieter cubes. Out of the box it can be very fast and slightly loose, and it comes heavily lubed from the factory. Some users leave it as it is, while others get noticeably more controllable behavior after setting it up and changing the lube. Reviewers praise its corner cutting. Popping can happen on looser settings, so if you turn aggressively, start with the tighter nuts.

Adjustment: nuts, springs and magnets

• Tension: 3 interchangeable nuts mounted directly on the core, working similarly to the GES system in GAN cubes. Orange is the tightest, white is in the middle, and green is the loosest.
• Spring compression: 4 levels, adjusted independently of tension using the included tool.
• Magnet strength: 5 levels, adjusted with the included screwdriver.

From the factory, the cube comes with the white nuts, compression level 4 and the strongest magnet setting. It's best to change settings gradually, because with 60 combinations it's easy to adjust too much at once.

V3 vs. previous TengYuns

If you loved the first TengYun for its very soft feel, you may find that the V3 sounds and turns a bit differently. It isn't the same cube with more options, but a new design with a different character. In return, you get much more freedom to tune the cube to your liking.

Who is it for?

For cubers who like to set up their cube themselves and want control over tensioning, compression and magnets. The TengYun V3 M is also a good choice if you're looking for a quiet 3x3 cube for practicing at home. Some people like to use it for blindfolded solving because it turns very lightly. For complete beginners, the number of settings may be a bit much at first, although the factory setup is perfectly fine to solve with as it is.
