ZhanChi is a name with a long history at DaYan. The original from 2011 was one of the go-to cubes for competitors for several years. The later ZhanChi 2018 was a solid cube, though nothing special, but it showed that DaYan still cared about build quality. The DaYan ZhanChi Pro M from 2021 is a 56 mm magnetic 3x3 cube that inherits the adjustment system from the TengYun V2 M. In our opinion, it is one of the more interesting 3x3 cubes DaYan released in that period.

How it turns

The ZhanChi Pro M is most often compared with the TengYun V2, and the comparison makes sense. It feels a bit more solid than the TengYun. Users describe it as lighter, smoother and more controllable. Reviewers praise its very good corner cutting and quiet turning. It is a stable, predictable cube rather than a very fast one. If you are used to the fastest flagships, it may feel calmer to you. Treat the factory setup as a starting point. The cube performs best once you adjust the tension and magnets and apply some lube.

Magnet, spring and center adjustment

• Magnet strength adjustment with three levels.
• Spring tension adjustment (tensioning) with four levels.
• Center distance adjustment, i.e. the distance between the core and the center (elasticity), with four levels.
• Classic screws for additional tuning the traditional way.

Tension and center distance are set with a double-sided adjustment tool, while magnets and screws are adjusted with a screwdriver. Both tools are included. Some users note that the adjustment parts are quite tight, so it is best not to use too much force when changing the settings.

Who is it for?

For cubers who like the feel of the TengYun V2 but prefer a more solid and controlled cube. The Pro M also suits cubers who want to fine-tune magnet strength and spring behavior themselves without swapping any parts. It is also a good choice as a magnetic cube when upgrading from your first, basic cube. The Pro M does not have MagLev or Ball-Core. DaYan introduced these features only in the newer ZhanChi Pro V5, which is a separate model.
