For a long time, DianSheng was known mainly for shape mods and modified puzzles. Classic NxNxN cubes from this manufacturer were practically unavailable. The Diansheng 2x2x2 Magnetic belongs to the budget magnetic series from 2021, with which DianSheng returned to classic speedcubing puzzles. It is a 50 mm magnetic 2x2 cube with factory-installed magnets. It comes in two colour variants: Stickerless Bright and Macaron.

How does it turn?

The cube is fast right out of the box. You don't need to break it in or lube it straight away to solve it comfortably. The feel is light, a bit "papery" and slightly scratchy. This is not a heavy, weighty cube. The magnets help the layers snap into place and give you more control when turning faster. This matters especially on a 2x2, because it can easily overshoot when you turn too hard.

For its price range, the cube can pleasantly surprise you, but don't expect it to perform like a flagship. Corner cutting is limited, and some users report popping when cutting corners more aggressively. If the cube feels too loose or too tight for you, you can change that with the adjustment screws. A screwdriver is included.

Who is it for?

It works well as a first magnetic 2x2 for someone who is just learning to solve. It also makes a good gift for a child, as it is easy to use and needs no setup. For cubers who already solve, it is a sensible backup cube to keep in your backpack or use for casual practice. A speedcuber chasing faster times who cuts corners a lot will probably need a more expensive model with better corner cutting and a wider tension adjustment range. The Diansheng 2x2x2 Magnetic is legal for official competitions.
