DianSheng 4-corner-only is a shape mod built on a 3x3 cube mechanism. Inside, it runs a standard 3x3 mechanism. Only the outer shape has changed: instead of a cube, you get an irregular polyhedron. Once scrambled, the puzzle loses its original shape, and the individual pieces no longer look like the classic corners and edges of a cube.

The moves are the same as on a regular 3x3 cube, so if you can solve one, you can use the same method and the same algorithms. The challenge lies mainly in recognizing the pieces. After scrambling, it isn't immediately clear which piece is a corner, which is an edge and where each one should go. It takes a little getting used to at first, but there's no new theory to learn. That makes the 4-corner-only a great pick for anyone who has mastered the 3x3 and wants something that looks completely different but still solves with a familiar method.

The mechanism is simple and isn't designed for speedcubing. It does, however, work well in modifications of this kind. The puzzle has adjustment screws, so you can tighten or loosen it if the factory setup doesn't suit you. It isn't allowed in official competitions, as it's a typical collector's puzzle meant to be solved for fun.

DianSheng also makes the 6-corner-only, a similar modification with a different shape. Both puzzles work on the same principle and turn in a similar way, so choosing between them is mainly a matter of which shape you prefer.

This model will appeal most to shape mod collectors and fans of 3x3 cube modifications. It also makes a great gift for someone who already solves the classic cube. If you're learning from scratch, it's better to start with a regular 3x3 cube.
