For years, DianSheng was known mainly for unusual puzzles. The brand returned to speed cubes with a budget magnetic series, and this 4x4 went on sale in 2021, right after the 2x2 and 3x3 models. The Diansheng 4x4x4 Magnetic is also sold as the DianSheng 4x4 M or Solar 4x4 M. It is a 60 mm magnetic 4x4 cube with frosted plastic and rounded pieces. Don't confuse it with the later Solar S4M, which is a different model.

Design

The internals are nothing like the 2x2 and 3x3 from the same series. The design is simple. The pieces have grooves familiar from, for example, early MoYu cubes, and the internal parts clearly take after the QiYi/MoFangGe design. The pieces are simplified, so the cube makes a rather "hollow" sound when turning.

How it turns

For its price range, the cube turns surprisingly well and doesn't disappoint. Turning is fast and the feel is slightly crispy. The magnets are unevenly distributed: on the outer layers you can barely feel them, while on the inner layers they are strong. Some users note that the cube is quite dry out of the box and improves noticeably after lubing. Reviews also mention inconsistent quality between individual units. Tension is adjusted with screws, and a screwdriver is included.

Who is it for?

This 4x4 cube is a good fit for someone who is just starting with 4x4 and wants to find out cheaply whether the event will hook them. It also works well as a backup or travel cube. It is a stickerless version, so there are no stickers that could wear off or peel, which matters for a cube for a child. A speedcuber who trains 4x4 regularly and wants even, strong magnets on all layers should rather choose a more expensive model.
