Diansheng 7x7 M: an affordable magnetic 7x7 cube
For years, Diansheng was known mainly for unusual, complex puzzles. In 2021, the company released a series of magnetic speed cubes. The
Diansheng 7x7 M hit the market at the end of July 2021 and is the largest cube from this manufacturer that is legal for
official WCA competitions. It's a budget magnetic 7x7 cube made of matte (frosted) plastic, which is less prone to scratches and gives a good grip.
How it turns
The mechanism is classic, with no unusual design features. The magnets are medium, leaning towards light, so the cube doesn't feel strongly "clicky". The springs are slightly softer than in most 7x7 cubes. This makes turning light, but the cube catches more often, especially on the outer layers. According to user reviews, this problem noticeably decreases after a dozen or a few dozen solves, once the cube is broken in.
In our opinion, the Diansheng 7x7 M turns similarly to an
MGC 7x7 set to tighter tension. Corner cutting is good, especially for Diansheng's first mass-produced 7x7. Reviewers also point out its stability and resistance to popping, which gives you plenty of confidence during longer solves on a cube this size.
Tension adjustment
Tension is adjusted with screws, and a screwdriver is included. Tightening reduces catching and adds control, while loosening makes the cube faster and more flexible, but less predictable.
Colour versions
The cube is available in Stickerless Bright (bright, vivid colours) and Macaron (pastel shades). The mechanism is the same in both.
Who is it for?
The Diansheng 7x7 M is a good choice for your first big cube, whether you're just starting out with 7x7 or you're an intermediate cuber who wants a magnetic 7x7 without spending a lot. Competitors chasing times in this event usually choose more expensive flagship models with stronger magnets.
