DianSheng 8-corner-only is a shape-shifting puzzle based on the 3x3 cube. In other shops and in reviews, it also appears as the DianSheng 8-Corner Hexagonal Dipyramid. When solved, it takes the form of an irregular polyhedron resembling a hexagonal bipyramid. It belongs to a series that also includes DianSheng's 4-corner and 6-corner versions. The model was released in 2015.

Mechanically, it is a regular 3x3 cube in a different shell. It solves the same way, so any 3x3 method will do. The challenge is that the puzzle loses its shape once scrambled, and the pieces of different sizes make it harder to tell which is which. If you already know how to solve a 3x3, you will usually get the hang of it quickly. If you are still learning the 3x3, it will be quite a challenge.

The mechanism is simple and works well in this kind of modification, but this is not a speed cube. Turning is average, and users report lockups and occasional pops, especially when turning faster. It is best to solve it calmly and align the layers carefully. The cube has medium-quality stickers. There are quite a few colours, but they are easy to tell apart. This puzzle is not legal in official WCA competitions.

DianSheng 8-corner-only is mainly for shape mod collectors and for anyone who can solve a 3x3 and wants a new challenge without learning a completely different puzzle. For practising your 3x3 times, a regular speedcube is a better choice. The cube comes in a sturdy cardboard and plastic box that lets you see the puzzle inside, so it also makes a good gift.
