DianSheng Diamond Cube is a shape mod built on a 3x3 cube mechanism. When solved, it looks like a cut diamond. After a few moves this shape falls apart, and pieces of different sizes form an irregular shape. We sell the Black version.

How is it different from a regular 3x3 cube?

The layers turn exactly like on a classic 3x3 cube, so the moves and algorithms are the same. The difference is that the cuts do not run through the centre of the puzzle, so the pieces have different sizes. When you scramble it, the shape changes as well as the colours, and you need to learn to recognise which piece is which. The cube is noticeably larger than a standard 3x3 (approx. 76.5 mm compared with the typical 55-57 mm), and each face has a different thickness. Because of this it feels different in your hands, and it takes a little getting used to.

The Diamond Cube is not made for breaking records. It is a puzzle you solve calmly and thoughtfully. User opinions on its turning are mostly good, but with such an irregular shape the occasional lockup can happen. Slow, precise turns work better here than high TPS.

Who is the Diamond Cube for?

This puzzle is best for someone who can already solve a 3x3 cube and is looking for something new without learning a completely different method. Knowing even the basic layer-by-layer method is more than enough. The challenge lies in reading the shape, not in new algorithms. Thanks to its unusual form, the cube also looks great on a collection shelf. For a child's first cube, it is better to buy a classic 3x3 and give them the Diamond Cube as the next step.
