DianSheng Googol Magnetic 2x2 (9 cm)

DianSheng Googol Magnetic 2x2 is a 90 mm 2x2 cube, almost twice the size of a standard 2x2 (approx. 50 mm). It belongs to the Googol series, in which DianSheng makes enlarged versions of popular puzzles: 3x3 cubes in sizes from 7 to 10 cm, Pyraminx, Skewb, Ivy Cube and Megaminx. Outside Poland this model is sometimes sold as the DianSheng Big 2x2 M. Despite its size, it is built like a speed cube: it comes with factory-installed magnets and tension adjustment, so you can actually solve it, not just keep it on a shelf.

What it's like to solve a big 2x2 cube

The cube weighs approx. 300 g, several times more than a regular 2x2. You hold it with your whole hands and turn the layers with wider movements, so record-breaking TPS is out of the question. For its size, though, it turns surprisingly well. The magnets pull each layer into alignment and finish an incomplete turn, so with heavy pieces you get fewer lockups. The pieces have a teardrop shape, which according to the manufacturer makes turning smoother.

Tension adjustment

The Googol 2x2 has a dual adjustment system with 10 settings. You can set the cube looser for lighter turning or tighter if you prefer more control. With a large, heavy cube this matters, because a setting that is too loose makes the layers more likely to shift out of place.

Stickerless bright

The colours are in the plastic itself, with no stickers, so nothing peels off or wears away at the edges, even when you grip the cube with your whole hand. The bright version has vivid shades that are easy to tell apart.

Who is it for?

• For people who can already solve a 2x2 and want something different to play with and add to their collection
• For learning and demonstrating algorithms: the large pieces are easy to see from a distance, e.g. in classes with children
• For people with large hands who find a standard 2x2 too small
• As a gift for a cube fan, also paired with the 9 cm Googol 3x3

For timed practice, a standard-size magnetic 2x2 cube is a better choice. The Googol 2x2 makes sense as a second, unusual 2x2.
