DianSheng Mirror 4x4 Metallized (Magnetic + Ball-Core)

This puzzle works just like a regular 4x4 cube, but it looks completely different. DianSheng Mirror 4x4 Metallized is a mirror cube with layers of different thicknesses and a single color on all faces. You solve it by the shape and size of the pieces, not by colors. Once scrambled, the cube loses its cubic form and turns into an irregular shape. This version has a metallized, mirror-like surface, magnets in the pieces and a Ball-Core.

How it differs from a regular 4x4

The mechanism is the same as in a classic 4x4, so the reduction method, edge pairing and parity work exactly the same way. The difficulty lies in reading the cube. You recognize the pieces by their dimensions, and the centers are not interchangeable as on a regular 4x4, because each one has its own shape and its own place. During your first solves you have to look carefully at every edge and layer, so even someone who knows the 4x4 well will solve noticeably slower.

Magnets and Ball-Core

• Magnets in the edges and corners help the layers snap into place, so it is easier to hit the correct alignment despite the irregular shape.
• Ball-Core, a spherical core with magnets that pull the corners towards the center. This makes the cube more stable and gives you more control when turning.
• Anti-pop design and pieces with internal grooves (the so-called "tortoise shell"), which, according to the manufacturer, distribute lube better.

In cheaper mirror cubes without magnets, the layers shift easily and are hard to align. Here this problem is much smaller. However, it is still a puzzle, not a cube for setting records, so don't compare it with flagship 4x4 speedcubing models.

Metallized finish

The outer surfaces of the pieces are metallized (electroplated), while the inside remains plastic. The cube is available in two colors: Silver and Green. The mechanism is the same in both versions; only the color differs.

Who is it for?

For those who can solve a 4x4 and want a new challenge. It is also a great addition to a collection, as it looks good on a shelf. Knowing the 3x3 mirror cube helps a lot. We don't recommend it as a first cube or as a first 4x4. For a child, it's worth buying only once they can solve a regular 4x4 on their own.
