DianSheng MS3X 3x3x3 M is a magnetic 3x3 cube from 2022, released under the MsCube brand, which was taken over by DianSheng. What sets it apart most is its very extensive adjustment system. Besides the standard tension and spring compression, you can also change how the magnets work and how the torpedoes are set. One cube can therefore behave completely differently depending on your setup.

Magnets: attraction or MagLev

Inside the core, under the compression ring, there is a magnetic ring. It works together with the magnets in the corner feet. Turn the ring by 45° and the cube switches from attraction mode (the magnets attract each other and pull the layer into place) to MagLev mode, where the magnets repel each other halfway through a turn. The cube still has springs, so this is not full MagLev like in cubes where magnets replace the springs. The set includes extra rings and magnets, so you can also set up the magnets yourself.

Adjustment and torpedoes

• 5 spring compression levels are set with a ring in the core. Stronger compression makes the cube more stable and slower.
• Tension is adjusted with a screw. Tightening it reduces popping but makes corner cutting worse.
• Adjustable torpedoes in the edges can be extended or retracted. Extended, they noticeably stabilise the cube at the cost of some cutting.
• The removable core makes adjusting the cube and replacing parts easier.

How it turns

Out of the box, the MS3X is fast, light and flexible, with a smooth and rather dry feel. Reviewers praise its corner cutting in both directions. Without the torpedoes, however, the cube can feel quite unstable. Once you extend them, it becomes more blocky and predictable, which some people compare to older flagships. The factory magnets are fairly strong, but after lubing they feel medium. Some users complain about the factory lube. If the cube feels sluggish, cleaning it and lubing it to your liking helps.

Who is it for?

For cubers who like experimenting with their setup and want to try different magnet configurations on a single cube. It is not a good choice as a child's first cube, as the number of parts and settings can be overwhelming. A simpler magnetic cube will work better here. The lightweight build suits people with a lighter turning style.
