DianSheng Solar 2x2x2 is the basic 2x2 model in the Solar series and one of the most affordable cubes of this type in our range. It's a simple non-magnetic cube in the stickerless bright colour scheme. It's made of coloured plastic, so there are no stickers that could wear off or peel over time. It measures 50 mm and weighs approx. 61 g. That's the standard size for a 2x2, comfortable for smaller hands too.

How it turns

The Solar 2x2x2 has no magnets, so the layers don't settle into place on their own the way they do in magnetic cubes. When you turn faster, you need to pay more attention to keeping the layers aligned, otherwise lockups are more likely. Some users report that the cube feels quite stiff straight out of the box. With budget cubes, lube and some breaking in usually help. This cube isn't designed for high TPS. It works well for learning and relaxed, casual solving.

Solar 2x2x2 or Solar 2x2 M UV?

We also offer the DianSheng Solar 2x2 M UV. The letter M stands for the magnetic version. Magnets in the pieces help the layers snap into place and make the cube more predictable during fast turning. The UV label means a glossy coating on the surface. For timing your solves and practising speedsolving, the magnetic version is the better choice. The basic Solar makes sense when a low price matters most.

Who is it for?

It's a good first 2x2 cube for anyone who wants to find out whether this puzzle will get them hooked without spending a lot. Parents can buy it for their child as a starter cube or as an add-on to a 3x3 cube. It's also handy as a spare cube for your backpack, for learning your first algorithms or for your collection.
