FangShi 2x2 Skewb Cube

A puzzle for anyone who finds a regular 2x2 and Skewb no longer challenging enough. FangShi 2x2 Skewb Cube is a shape mod that combines these two puzzles into one. The same body turns in two ways: in layers like a 2x2 and diagonally around a corner like a Skewb. To solve it, you have to sort out both the 2x2 part and the Skewb part at the same time. This makes the internal mechanism much more complex than in either of these puzzles on its own.

How it turns

Both cutting planes are available at once. You can make a few 2x2 moves and switch straight to Skewb moves. You don't need to put the cube in any particular position first. Turning is fairly smooth, but this is not a cube for speedsolving. The mechanism has a lot of pieces, so it's better to turn calmly and precisely than to go for high TPS. If you turn too aggressively, catching is more likely than on a regular 2x2.

How to approach it

If you already know the 2x2 and Skewb, you have a good starting point. However, the moves of one puzzle scramble the pieces of the other, so ready-made algorithms won't work here directly. You need to understand which pieces each move shifts and do quite a bit of experimenting. That's what makes this puzzle so much fun.

Who is it for?

For collectors and cubers who enjoy unusual mods and mechanisms. It also makes a great gift for someone who already solves several types of puzzles. We don't recommend it as a first puzzle or for a child who is just learning the 3x3. To start, it's better to get a regular 2x2 or Skewb and come back to this cube later.
